I keep telling myself these past couple of years that I would write more. And then the blog would sit idle for the rest of the year. Turns out I have been writing more. Just not on this blog. I’ve been writing in my own Obsidian vault for years. Are any of those musing worth sharing? Maybe. But I think the fact that the only audience is me compells me to write more frequently. Blog entries, despite mine being nothing special take time to prep. My own journal entries on my vault? No prep, just write. And when I’m done writing that’s it. I can move on with my day.

That said, I really would like to start writing more on the blog. I’ve generally seen blogging as a resource. For example, a deep dive into some piece of technology or process that no post on bluesky or mastodon would do it justice. It’s a small way to give back to the community and distill knowlege and experience to those that may venture down similar paths that I’ve taken. With that said, over the next year I suspect I’ll be in a corner of game dev that isn’t as well trodden: Using Godot and Rust together to make games and applications. I’m not going to dig into the “why’s” in this post. But I wanted to highlight some of the stuff I’ve had to sort through to get this unorthodox alliance working:

  • Using the amazing Rust GDExtension crate to be able to call into godot from Rust.
  • Experimenting using Bevy as well, but opted to keep it simpler with just godot + rust.

2024 stats

  • 67 entries in dev log.
  • 93 today notes.

that’s 160 entries in 2024.
